Celebrating Women’s Leadership

Montgomery County Community College’s annual Leading Women Symposium and Golf Experience highlights the important role of female leadership in the workplace and provides an invaluable networking opportunity for participants. Proceeds support student scholarships and career and leadership development programs for women.

Held on June 3 at the Talamore Country Club in Ambler, this year’s event raised more than $43,000--60 percent increase from 2012--with 160 participants, including alumnae, friends and community members.

The day started with brunch and keynote speaker Martha Taylor, a leader of the women’s philanthropy movement. As the Vice President of Development/Principal Gifts for the University of Wisconsin Foundation, Martha has been a key player in the growth of one of the most successful higher education foundations. Delivering speeches across the country and abroad, Martha has inspired hundreds of women to increase their commitment to philanthropy and make a positive difference.

Additionally, Barbara Kahn was recognized as this year’s Leading Women Award Honoree for her passionate commitment to philanthropy. Barbara and her husband Charles Kahn have been longtime friends and advocates of MCCC. Charles was one of the founding members of Board of Trustees and was instrumental in the establishment of the College. Barbara supports education, the arts and cultural organizations, religious tolerance initiatives and healthcare organizations, including Fox Chase Cancer Center and the American Heart Association.

Following the program, women enjoyed an 18-hole scramble, while novice golfers had the option to sharpen their swinging and putting skills through the Learners’ Program. The evening concluded with awards and dinner.

Members of the Leading Women Planning Committee are listed on the College’s web site: http://www3.mc3.edu/lw/host.htm.

The College’s Foundation would like to thank the participants and sponsors for their enthusiasm and generous support of this annual event, as well as the members of the Planning Committee for their numerous hours of service and dedication. Through your combined efforts, our students will have the opportunity to pursue and attain their education goals.

Students Pay it Forward

To date, 94 students have given approximately $2,389.53 to the 2013 Student Challenge. The goal to raise $3,500, which means we need 81 students to give a total of $1,110.47. The campaign will continue through June 30, 2013.

All donations to the Student Challenge support the Alumni Scholarship Fund. This annual campaign is a wonderful opportunity for students to invest in the future of the College and say “thank you for their educational experiences.” The campaign is also an opportunity to educate current students about the importance of remaining involved as alumni, including supporting the College philanthropically.
