Stephen Lang's "Beyond Glory" Honors Veterans

On Friday, October 18, award-winning playwright, stage actor and screen star Stephen Lang brought the true stories of eight war veterans to the stage in a national touring production of "Beyond Glory" at the intimate setting of the College's Science Center Theater in Blue Bell.

The soul-stirring one-man show, which enjoyed celebrated runs on Broadway and in Chicago, was created by Lang as an adaptation of journalist Larry Smith's book, "Beyond Glory: Medal of Honor Heroes in Their Own Words."

Most widely known for his portrayal of Colonel Miles Quaritch in the James Cameron blockbuster "Avatar," Lang has enjoyed a long acting career on stage and in television and film. His many film credits include Stonewall Jackson in "Gods and Generals," the title role in the television movie "Babe Ruth," and Commander Nathaniel Taylor in the recent sci-fi television series, "Terra Nova."

The performance was particularly timely for the College, which has expanded its support of veterans in recent years to include a Veterans Resource Center, Veterans Support Team and a Student Veterans Organization, an official chapter of the Student Veterans of America.

Prior to the event, Lang met with the audience members, including several student and alumni veterans who received complimentary tickets to the show. A pre-show private reception was held for donors and veterans. Following the performance, Lang stayed to sign autographs, have photographs taken and talk to each of the veterans.

Art Exhibition Highlights Preservation of Montgomery County's Natural Assets

Rolling meadows, forests with sparkling streams and favorite park spaces—these are just a few of the special aspects of Montgomery County's open spaces highlighted in the artwork of more than 50 artists in Montgomery County Lands Trust's (MCLT) "Embrace Open Space" art exhibition held at Montgomery County Community College's Fine Arts Gallery in Blue Bell October 14-November 8.

The show reflects MCLT's mission "to preserve and connect the natural areas, farmland, and neighborhood green spaces, which contribute to our quality of life, to a clean and abundant water supply and to the health of our region's economy." Sponsors of the exhibit include PECO, Univest Corporation and College Librarian Robert H. Erb. As part of the exhibit, the College's Art and English departments and students worked together to create a sculpture, appropriately named "Connections," to reflect the collaborative nature of the overall initiative.
