Ed.D. Higher Education Study Abroad Trip
Although study abroad programs for doctoral students are not that common, that didn’t stop April Herring, Ed.D., assistant professor of Higher Education in Immaculata’s Ed.D. program, from organizing a trip to England for students in her Global Topics in Education course. Visiting four universities in England, the students studied and experienced the differences in U.S. and English education in terms of finance, access, and internationalization.
The universities visited were: St. Mary’s University in Twickenham, a suburban Catholic institution; the prestigious Oxford University; the UCL Institute of Education, ranked #1 in the world for Education in 2014 BY QS; and the City University, an urban, access focused institution. Before traveling to England, the students conducted pre-work during a one-week online class. Once back in the United States, the students participated in a wrap-up class to reflect on their learning experiences. While there they also had the chance to take in some of the historical sites in London including the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham palace.
“The opportunity to study higher education in Great Britain with Dr. Herring and classmates in my cohort made me even more convinced I made the right decision in choosing Immaculata University to pursue my doctorate,” commented Lynda Michaels, a student at the IU cohort at the PASSHE Dixon Center.
To learn more about the Ed.D in Higher Education program, please contact Mark Hammons, Associate Director of Special Programs, at mhammons@immaculata.edu or 484-323-3213.
